HumeLink East Mentoring Program (HEMP) was designed to retain trades women in construction, support women in leadership and other female employees across the project.
The mentoring model has supported HumeLink East Pre-Employment Program participants via one-on-one mentoring support to assist with their transition into employment in trades and non-traditional roles on the HumeLink East Project.
These sessions have been shadowed by 15 existing female workers, who have undertaken accredited mentor training with HSAS, before providing ongoing peer-based mentoring for retention of trainees. This provides existing female workers with leadership development opportunities.
The model gives women already employed on The Project professional mentoring training and mentoring support on their journey as an employee. Given female participation rates more broadly across the construction sector, it is essential that The Project has a strategy to retain women entering the sector along with building confidence and leadership skills.
Sessions have been designed based on consultation with women employed on the project through initial survey responses, with interim and close out surveys provided to measure success and effectiveness.
