Empower Strathnairn Mentoring Program

Build Like a Girl

Build Like A Girl have designed and delivered a customised mentoring program for ICON Constructions on the Strathnairn Primary school project to:

  • Support and Mentor a 100% Female Site Management Team for the duration of the project.
  • Mentoring women actively engaged in the project through collaborative support of individuals, employers, and industry.
  • Support and Mentor female tradeswomen in each trade discipline performing on site works (subcontractors)
  • Create a culture of holistic health and wellbeing on site for all workers.
  • Measure and evaluate performance of the program at commencement and completion. Interim review/survey to assess performance/success.
  • While not an objective for EMPOWER Strathnairn, ideally the project would provide a mentor model which could be applied to other projects / construction sites.
  • Create a positive culture on site which directly contributes

As part of the ACT Women’s Action Plan item 2.6 – Gender equity in construction, Build Like A Girl can provide custom mentoring support for your workforce and teams.

Enact Real Change

Build Like A Girl is a not-for-profit organisation that develops collaborative pre-apprenticeship and entry level programs, helping participants to find employment in a fulltime apprenticeship or trainee skilled role, as well as offering an inclusive and welcoming space for all women in trades.

We will then continue mentoring, coaching, case management, networking and support for every individual.

Our team will identify women in need of employment, support them through pre-apprenticeship training, resilience training and accredited Certificate III trade skills to grow confidence and understanding of trade opportunities. It will then assist them to access jobs with employer partners and enter employment with ongoing mentoring and a wide range of support.
